Hello,

Just a quick note in case you didn’t know, there will be no badminton this evening as Gateshead Leisure Centre is not open on Bank holidays.

I just realised the site calendar mentioned there was a session tonight, this has been removed but might take some time to update.

Thanks and see you all next Monday!

Hello everyone, hope you’re enjoying the sun? Following the meeting on Monday there are a few key things to announce.

Firstly, we have 6 new committee members: Match Secretary – Kim Robson, Coaching Coordinator – John Tetlow, Membership Secretaries – Rose Envy and Steven Garcia, Sponsorship Officer – Rob Corr and Webmaster – Neil Herald. I would like to welcome and thank them for helping to sustain and improve our club.
Further details of the new committee roles and how they can help the club develop will be shared once we get things sorted. All positions including Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer will be up for re-election at our AGM in December.
Secondly, the weekly subs will increase to £3.50 with effect from next Monday 2nd April. This is to cover our court hire costs. There will be no increase in membership fees this year.  (NB we will not be meeting on bank holiday Monday 9th April but return as normal 8pm on Monday 16th)
Finally, I have been asked to remind everyone that there is a potential safety hazard when walking behind courts whilst games are in progress. Please be aware and stay back from the courts whilst waiting to play, particularly when gathered around the peg-board. Thank you.
Hope to see you next week.
Tim

An idea has popped up, should each peg have a coloured dot depending on ability?

This would allow people to choose fairer games. It would be a simple 3 colour system for beginner, intermediate and advanced.

Please vote with your answer and remember all voting is anonymous.

Should we colour the pegs according to ability

  • No (14%, 4 Votes)

Hello all, just a quick reminder that Gateshead Badminton Club are meeting again on Monday 8-10pm as usual at Gateshead Leisure Centre.

Thanks to everyone who turned up last time, it was another bumper crowd with over 30 people. Also, John Tetlow has asked us to mention… …for anyone that is interested there is another club that plays on a friday at Thomas Hepburn School in Felling from 7.15pm to 8.45pm, all welcome, cost £3.50 Anyone that wants details either ask John on monday or email jt_kcc@yahoo.co.uk

Next Monday 5th March at 5pm – 6pm there is an Back2Badminton event at Gateshead Leisure Centre .  The event will host badminton games for all abilities, beginners are welcome and equipment supplied if needed.

Last night we had 32 players on 4 courts and we received feedback that unfortunately people were sitting off quite awhile between games.

David offered the idea of lowering the score  if we had lots of players. This would allow people to play shorter games more often.

Please let us know if you would like to change the current setup which is:

  • Win at 21 points
  • If you draw after 20 points the winner is the first team to get 2 points clear or the first to reach 30 points

I think 19 players is a fair number to base this poll on, leave a comment if you have any suggestions and email me (Gary@GatesheadBadminton.org.uk) if you have any other suggestions.

If we get over 19 people should we lower the game score for the first hour?

  • Yes lower to 15 @ draw 2 clear points or first to 20 (80%, 8 Votes)
  • Yes lower to 17 @ draw 2 clear points or first to 24 (10%, 1 Votes)
  • No keep the score at 21 @ draw 2 clear points or first to 30 (10%, 1 Votes)

Total Voters: 10
